METACOGNITIVE BLOG: THESIS STATEMENT AND TOPIC SENTENCE

   

    In academic writing, thesis statements and topic sentences are considered as the basic fundamentals in the world of writing. The thesis statement is commonly found in the last part of the introduction, and serves as the “road map” of the entire essay, guiding the readers throughout. 

In contrast, topic sentences are mostly positioned at the beginning of the paragraph. It introduces the main idea of the essay, and aids to smoother transitions, and maintains the essay’s coherence.
